Beer and
Bollocks 3 - a weekly wrap-up
08/08/2001
- Well the gig at Greensquare was alright on Saturday night, Polystigma
are a good all girl band, the first two bands weren't very good. Offcut
promotions put on the gig, shouts out to them, even though only 23 people
paid, there were more who got in for free than paid. I got some photos
of the show I may put up also. On the door too I was, I did more jobs
than the promoters themselves haha. I missed the Soul/Jazz sound system
too - fuck it'll be good in November.
What Get's
My Goat
I felt Beer and Bollocks needed a goat section. Two things this week,
firstly the length of the train trip to Sydney. One and a half hours it
takes to get there. So many people from Sydney make crap excuses about
not going to gigs and I have to make a huge trek. Move to Sydney you say.
No - well not yet anyway, it's a fucking rip off. Secondly, it's the fact
I missed the soul/jazz sound sytem. Thanks ruffy for bragging about it,
I'm going to make a big effort over the next year to make this page equal
in content for ska, soul, dancehall and reggae cos ska is just one of
many awesome genres.
Movie/s
of the week
I didn't watch any
But the TV show Lock Stock based on the movie Lock Stock and Two Smoking
Barrells was on last night and the sound track was fucking awesome. Guy
ritchie was once a skinhead and he's the director of these cockney gangster
productions and does a good job. Trojan references a plenty and soul and
reggae tunes put in just for the fun of it, it seems. ABC 9:30 tuesday.
Link of
the Week
Glasgow Skinhead
and Lambretta site - in the top 5 skinhead sites, just info about
the subculture, of course a traditional skinhead site, racists and gays
aren't welcome and leave your politics at the door. Vespas are better
than Lamies.
Music
I'm listening to this week
I've put in the latest Madness album this week. It has gotten a lot
of criticism this album, for its lack of ska, but this album turned me
off shite bands such as Reel Big Fish and Area 7 and I'm still a fan of
it. If I had a top 50 of all time favourite songs, this CD would get two
on that list. Firstly the rocksteady/ska song "The Communicator"
where I got the name for my fanzine from and then the catchy pop, feel
good song "Saturday Night, Sunday Morning." the latter would
make the top 10.
Gig I'm
going to
Tartan Heart Ska Klub is this week, although it's punk dominated with
No Idea and Top Novil playing, and probably Riot City if what I've been
told is on the mark. I'd say the evening will involve more drinking than
anything else.
If someone
has some good websites, please tell me about them. It seems for how big
the web is good sites with lots of content dont exist, or at least there
are only a few.
