Due
to the original reviewer being too pissed (*cough* Glen) on Saturday to
remember the gig, I have been given the honour to tell all you lovely
readers about the Tartan Heart Ska Night Klub gig on the 9th of June.
The
evening began quite well, first band up being the skam (not SKAM), they
played a powerful set of originals and several covers from the likes of
Operation Ivy, the Suicide Machines and The Specials. They got the crowd
warmed up and skankin', that's when I got a good feeling about the evening.
(editor's note: well done to the skam for playing for the crowd. They
changed their set to include more covers - doing The Special's Little
Bitch much better than the Porkers)
So
then more beer poured into everyone's systems and Glenny gave me the camera
to take pics from the gig coz he got too smashed.
Second
band up was Riot City. This is a band I think everyone should catch atleast
once, cos they are so worth seeing. Busting out covers like woolly bully,
skinhead girl, night boat to Cairo, Al Capone, Guns of Navarone and several
other rad songs with crazy singing and toasting from the likes of King
Ruffy, Martin Hemeroid and Mr. Gorman..
Riot city had the whole joint skankin for a full set!! This was the highlight
of the evening.
While
Riot city were playing, I felt an itch in my hand and decided to play
the pokies, I slapped up a feature first hit and one 10 bucks
(Just thought you's might wanna know).
Then
headlining band was The Lyrical Madmen, Who started their set with everyone's
fighting; which is a really good opening tune. They played a great set
which had people on their feet which was good to see. Once the Madmen
finished their set, All you could hear being yelled out was "DATE
RAPE!! DATE RAPE!!" (started by Marv)
And the crowd got it! One of Sublime's best known songs was the closing
song for the evening with guest vocals all over the place, even myself
on the stage for a while.
This
is the first time I've seen any of these bands, and all three bands definitely
more than impressed me. Overall I had a five star night and I'm sure anyone
that was there would
feel the same.
Be
sure to see pics of the gig on dizzybeat.com's pics section.
