Carry on Oi! 29th Sep Greensquare Hotel. Review by Michael Spate Here's a show that many people, myself included had been looking forward to for a long time, and a large turnout was expected. We arrived early so as to not miss anything, and also so we could con Martin into letting N.A.O. play in place of the Derailed. Loyal were first up and played a set of covers, plus one original, called "The Loyal". Highlights were their covers of Cocksparrer's "Bird Trouble", "Wonderful World" by the 4Skins and "Work Together" by The Bruisers(?). For their first show, they got a pretty good crowd response and their set was enjoyed by all. Next up was Doc Evil from Newcastle who played a fairly long set, and was well recieved by the crowd. Doug has a good stage presence and got the crowd pretty stirred up, one skinhead even making stagedives. By now many people were singing along and dancing to songs such as "P.C." and "Touched By an Angel". Following Doc Evil was Sydney Guns, who were the best recieved and in my opinion probably the best band of the night. Absolute chaos broke out on the dance floor as the crowd was now well worked up and full of beer, fists flying everywhere, stagedives and singalongs. By the time the Blurters were ready to play the crowd had tired and diminished a little but they delivered a good set. They played a mix of old songs like "Pussfuck" as well as new ones such as "Beer'n'Bile" and "Trinity Grammar". They still had a fair few people up the front dancing thought the good mood was briefly dampened when Craig threw a member of the crowd across the room. The Last Hemeroids were up next and now the crowd size was noticably smaller but they played well, with quite a few fans still on the dancefloor. Martin commented on the number of request for ska songs at an Oi! show and the Oi! requests at ska shows and though they did end up playing a mix of both tonight. N.A.O. finished up though we were all pretty pissed by this stage, we held the set together well and were well recieved by the crowd. Closing with a cover of "Barroom Hero" by the Dropkick Murphys had most people still there signing along and dancing. Overall, the night was a fantastic show, everyone had a great time and was left with high spirits as it promises a great resurgence in the Streetpunk and Oi! scene in Australia.
