Blitz 3 @ Greensquare Hotel Well first of all, Bomber from Bombshell Zine must be congratulated for his time and effort in putting on this gig. For many pics of the all ages show go to the pics page The first band of the day were Cursed Earth from sunny Ipswich, although they say Brisbane - as I would if I came from Ipswich. Anyway, they are a metal band, and although usually I can't stand metal these guys were okay, the highlight being "I want to be a pig".
Next
to come were Bagster.
Their new wave, pop style of ska is quite infectious and it seems a bus The Hassle Brigade continued the all ages show, but I was outside so had to wait til night to see them.
18+ Show Cursed Earth kicked off the show once again and by this time I was a bit sick of them, was simply awaiting the finish of their set. I'm not a metal fan. The Hippycrits were next - with their Oi! and punk they present a show to throw your fists in the air with. I really would have enjoyed them more on a different night, I wasn't in the best form health wise and was saving energy for the Hemeroids. Kamikaze Harry were up next - and they are from Wollongong so they must be alright. They wouldnt't have to play and they'd get 5/10 just for that. Chants of Dapto, Dapto from the punters didn't stop them playing the best I'd seen them. Adam got kicked out, but he's not missed in my opinion. Bulldog on sax made up for lack of numbers. KH much better live then on CD. 2nd last for the night were The Hassle Brigade. These characters play a mix of old school punk, ska and reggae although reggae is limited. There were requests from the crowd, some good covers and originals were played and everyone was enjoying themselves. They put on quite a good show, but I was waiting to see the Hemeroids. Ned and I had considered catching the 2nd last train back to the Gong, but that would have meant missing the Last Hemeroids, so we decided to take our chances with the last train. We weren't disappointed either. Tonight's set was a mix of ska and Oi! and combined songs from the new and old CD. The sax for the ska songs was appreciated by all and fists in the air were present during the Oi! songs. I hadn't heard "equality" live before and that was a pick for me. As was "fuck authority" and "zombie baby". Everyone was up skankin' and helped me stop thinking how shite i felt. It was good to see a strong Wollongong prescence that night too and by the end I really didn't feel like the 1.5 hour train ride home - but all worth it! Glen Smyth |
