Band: Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards
Album: self titled
Reviewer: Ned Rectifier

Rancid guitarist Lars Fredericksen has teamed up with fellow punks an formed a side project called Lars Fredericksen and The Bastards. The band have just released their debut self titled record. Lars has proved to be multi talented producing records and he has now expanded his talents to song writing with the Bastards. Most of the song writing is about stories of Fredericksens gang life as a kid. While Lars has a bigger role in this band than Rancid he says that the new band is not an off shoot but more of an expansion of the Rancid family. Fredericksen says that he wanted the album to be something that he would want to listen to as he was growing up as a young punk in Campbell California. Some believe that the Rancid influence is so strong that not only did Tim Armstrong have the idea of telling Fredericksens stories, co write the tracks, produce the tracks and release them on the Hellcat label (his label) but he is the Unknown bastard which is yet to be confirmed or denied by Fredericksen. The influences of this band are Social Distortion, Black Flag and Crucifix. This album is for anyone who likes their punk old school. Some of the songs on the album are Rancid covers. This is a good album and will surely please any old school punk and will influence them in many ways. There's no point choosing favourite tracks cause in this reviewers opinion they're all as good as each other.

Paul points out some inaccuracies in the review:
your review was pretty good except for a few errors, there is no way
that tim could be the unknown bastard. Have you ever seen the guy? He's
skinny as hell and the unknown bastard is huge. Also, there are no
rancid covers on the cd. The cd does kick ass and i like your take on
it.
